SAP Upgrade Event with the SAP user group
13/ 05/ 2008
United Kingdom

It is possible to develop an understanding of a top down approach to Business Process Management from reading marketplace material, attending conferences, courses... But what happens if the company you are working for is uncertain of the value proposition of BPM, or unwilling to fund a large initiative. How can the principles applied to large programs be tailored to fit small, short term initiatives? How much planning and preparation is required before starting the pilot project? How do subsequent projects build on the first to achieve a cohesive whole? How can the value of mapping end-to-end processes be demonstrated to management?
The aim of this discussion is to give an insight into how the above may be achieved, and to add value improving business understanding and guiding IT development.

Corporate Social Responsibility Breakfast Australia
11/ 11/ 2007

On Friday 11th (Sydney) and 12th (Perth) October 2007, The Birchman Group hosted two breakfast session focusing upon Corporate Social Responsibility (‘CSR’).

The key speaker was Dr Paul Griffiths; Research Associate at Henley Management College (UK) and Birchman’s Managing Partner for Chile. Paul shared some interesting perspectives on CSR in a global context and reflected upon the changing attitudes within the business environment towards sustainable development.

The World Business Council for Sustainable Development defines CSR as the continuing commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce, their families, the local community and society at large.

Due in some part to the onslaught of globalisation, 51 of the top 100 economies in the world are now companies, not countries! Business leaders around the world are under pressure to measure their business in terms of sustainability not just profitability. Major organisational collapses over the last few years has focused attention upon Corporate Governance and Ethics and business leaders are increasingly required to be transparent and confront corruption. Companies are moving towards treating their People as assets that need to be nurtured and helped to grow rather than costs which need to be reduced. Attitudes towards the Environment are shifting rapidly with growing awareness amongst most sectors of the world’s community. A heightened social and community awareness is encouraging organisations towards a focused Contribution to Development of local communities.

In Sydney Philip Argy the National President of the Australian Computer Society opened the event and provided some interesting perspectives on CSR.

In Perth former Perth Wildcats captain and Sydney Olympian, Ricky Grace gave a keynote address on the goals and objectives of his organisation, Role Models WA, which provides assistance to Indigenous youth who suffer from poverty, sickness, misfortune or a disconnectedness from their community; an outstanding example of Contribution to Development in action. Birchman thanks Nick Marvin (CEO) and CJ Craig Jackson (Assistant Coach) from the Perth Wildcats for donating a signed basketball shirt, which was auctioned at the breakfast. Birchman matched the auction amount ‘two for one’ with total proceeds donated to Role Models WA.

The impact of Globalisation on local markets
12/ 04/ 2006
Perth, Australia

How is Globalisation affecting Western Australia?

Globalisation is affecting our everyday life with huge impacts being felt internationally and in our local communities. The globalisation trend was first pioneered by large multi-national organisations as they relentlessly pursued opportunities to reduce costs in the delivery of services and products to their customers and in the commoditisation of back office processes. The impact of globalisation is beginning to be felt in Western Australia as organisations develop strategies to remain relevant in an increasingly competitive environment.

The Birchman Group cordially invite you to attend a breakfast to discuss this topic . Our speaker, Jeremy Vincent, has held senior leadership positions in large-scale Global and European change programmes for Kimberly Clark, Polaroid, Allied Domecq and EMI. Jeremy is based in London and is managing the strategy development and delivery of a Global Change Programme for EMI Music.

The discussion will enable you to understand the likely impacts of globalisation on both the public and private sector first hand from one of the leaders in the field and to understand how technology is a critical enabler of successful globalization both at a local level and a global level.

Frank Early and Phil Thistlethwaite look forward to your company.
